On the 26th & 27th October 2013, the Donegall Pass Youth Safety Partnership (YSP), along with their host organisation – South Belfast Alternatives took part in a residential at Jungle NI, near Moneymore.  12 young adults and 3 members of staff took part.  The purpose of the residential was to look at new areas of work for next year, look at future training and also to reward the young people for their positive work in their community over the last year.  We completed a wide range of fun activities such as zorbing, paintballing, the Fright night experience and the Tree top adventure.

Youth Safety Partnership staff also looked at 3 new programmes of work for next year, such as the Street by Street detach work (engaging people on the street using detach youth work) around issues such as anti-social behaviour.  We also discussed a new programme called Snow-Patrol (around helping the elderly / vulnerable in our community) and other projects around making the Donegall Pass area safer and looking better.  We looked at anti-social behaviour hotspots in the area and discussed different ways to approach difficult young people, what future training was required and listening skills.  We stayed overnight in Cookstown which was a different experience for the young  people, who all come from urban inner-city backgrounds.  The whole residential experience was very positive.  The young people enjoyed themselves and bonded brilliantly over the 2 days.  As a result of the residential, we have some excellent ideas for the future of Donegall Pass Youth Safety Partnership.

Youth Safety Network Project Co-ordinator Nev Gallagher said,

“This residential was essential in order to discuss the future of the Donegall Pass Youth Safety Partnership, look at future training required and discuss new projects for next year.  It was also important to reward the young people for their work of the last year.”
